This update is long overdue and I apologize for being so late in getting it out. Much has happened since my last update but none of it has been travel related.
First I will update you on my sister Linda and her husband Mike. Mike was diagnosed with Cancer in December. When it was discovered he was already far along with tumors on his brain, lung, one kidney and his shoulder. Then in a series of surgeries he had the tumor on his brain removed. He also had one of his kidney removed. Then they started him on chemo therapy. After the first series of the treatment he become so ill they had to stop. That was about a month ago.
I went over to his house Sunday before last and he seemed to be feeling better. He was working on a clock (he was always a handy man). He did seem to be feeling better. Then this past Friday my sister called and said he had taken a turn for the worse. That he was now under Hospice care and they had to bring in a hospital bed for him. So Sunday my brother Jerry and I went by and saw them. I was shocked! Mike had deteriorated so much. He now was so frail he could not ever drink by himself without help. It was obvious to me and everyone else that he was near the end.
I talked to Linda last night and she said Mike has stopped eating. As you can imagine that can't go on for long. All we can do now is wait.
As for my travel schedule, as you can imagine, it is a bit up in the air, at least in the near term. One thing that has not changed is my feet are still itchy! In fact more itchy than ever. All this setting in one place is starting to wear me down I need to get moving again.
In my last posting I mentioned that I was changing my schedule to allow me to go to my friend Steve's wedding on 21 June in Denver. I spoke to Steve last week and the date may not remain the same. His fiance is having some problem with her family that may cause a delay. So, I may or may not be heading to Denver in June. Steve said he should know in a few days.
If I don't end up going to Denver for the wedding I will revert to my original plan to spend the summer in or around La Grande, Oregon.
As for my longer term schedule I will still spend most of next winter in Arizona. But I will return back here to Boise, Idaho in May instead of going up the west coast next summer. I will need to be back here so my son Ray can watch my cats while I go to the U.S. Navy reunion in Dunoon and Holy Loch, Scotland scheduled for May 2009.
After I return from the reunion at the end of May or early June I'm thinking I want to head west to the Oregon coast for the summer. Then in the fall I will head back here to Boise for a month or so then travel south for the winter. Then in the spring I will resume my west coast tour.
In a few days I will have my schedule updated on the web site. Stay turned!
