I am now in Idaho Falls. However, I got here a little differently than I planned. My original plan was to continue on west on I80 after departing Rawlins, Wyoming to just east of Green River, Kansas and take Highway 30 north to Idaho Falls.
Well in the morning while I was getting my RV ready to depart Rawlins, I started chatting with one of my neighbors and found out that they were going to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Well I made an instant command decision to go there too.
So I did heat west on I80 but in Rock Springs I took Hwy 191 north toward Jackson Hole. One comment here. I was climbing nearly the whole way. I did see one elevation sign and it was over 10,000 feet. Anyway, I had a very pleasant drive through some beautiful countryside.
When I arrived in Jackson Hole, I found a very nice little city in a beautiful green valley. However, there was a lot of traffic and the main road through the center of town, called Broadway oddly enough, was extremely busy.
After driving through town and then turning around and driving back through the center of town I stopped for gas and looked up on the internet for RV Parks in Jackson Hole. I only found 3 in the area of the city and called each of them. They were all booked.
While driving through the center of town I saw the Town Square which is a park. This is the famous one which has the corner of the park framed by a tall antler arch, made with real elk antlers. I believe the first time I remember seeing the antler arch's picture was in the movie "Any Which Way You Can" (1980) starring Clint Eastwood. Clint's character Philo Beddoe goes bare knuckle's with the character Jack Wilson played by one of my favorite bad guy's of the era William Smith.
So I made another command decision. I was only 90 miles from Idaho Falls so I decided to push on through. It was only about 2:00 PM so I would arrive in Idaho Falls at a decent time.
After driving through some more beautiful country I arrived in Idaho Falls about 5:00 PM and stopped at the first RV Park I came across on Highway 26 which was the Shady Rest RV Park on Yellowstone Highway. I have arranged to stay here for a week. Later this week I will decide wether to stay here longer or not.
By the way, I realize now that going the way I did through Jackson Hole was actually a little shorter distance than my original plan. So by going by way of Jackson Hole and not being able to find a place to stay was really not out of my way at all. Plus I got the added bonus of seeing some really pretty country.
I was looking at my calendar and I have a couple of Doctor appointments (annual ones) scheduled for 19 September so I know I need to be back into the Boise area at least a week before then. I also want to stop off at Twin Falls for a week or so and visit nearby Jackpot, Nevada and the Craters of the Moon and Sun Valley and the Twin Falls themselves of course. So I may only stay here a week but I won't make that decision until about Monday.
